McCarter applauds young playwrights

   The McCarter Theatre Education Department is proud to announce the winners of the Third Annual Youth Ink! Playwriting Competition. This season the Youth Ink! program involved four schools in a 10-session playwriting residency.
   Artists-in-residence in these schools included McCarter artistic director and award-winning playwright Emily Mann as well as playwright Noah Haidle and members of the McCarter Education Department teaching staff.
   The students wrote 10-minute plays with the guidance of teaching artists, classroom teachers and fellow student dramaturgs.
   The following plays were selected to be produced in the Youth Ink! Festival in "The Room" located in McCarter’s Berlind Theatre: Three public performances will be held on June 9 at 4 p.m. and June 10 at 4 and 7 p.m.
   • "A Wilted Rose" by Heidi Schoenenberger, a junior at Colts Neck High School.
   • "Bowler" by Matt Weinstock, a senior at Princeton Day School.
   • "Waiting to Be Saved" by David Blitzer, a senior at Princeton Day School.
   • "Twelve Angry Peanuts" by Evan Weiss, a sophomore at Princeton High School.
   • "Life as a Balloon" by Sarah McKnight, a junior at West Windsor- Plainsboro High School South.
   • "Ten Minutes Too Long (Until I Think of a Better Title)"by Anu Bhargava, a senior at West Windsor Plainsboro High School South.
   The Youth Ink! Festival will offer five student matinee performances, June 5 through 10 at 11 a.m. There is a suggested donation of $10 per ticket. Tickets can be reserved through the Education Department at (609) 258-6511.
