Mission trip by 40 young members to build houses for six families

PLAINSBORO Princeton Alliance Church will host a silent auction 10 a.m. Saturday to raise money for a mission trip to Mexico.
Nearly 40 young people from the church will travel to Mexico in July to build houses for six families currently living under poor conditions. Money raised through Saturday’s auction will go toward the $21,000 needed for building materials.
While the students construct houses, they will also build relationships as they gain a new perspective on the world.
"Not only do they get to explore the world, but they serve those less fortunate," said Connie Silakoski, a member of the silent auction committee. Her husband and three of her children will participate in the trip.
With the help of the young church volunteers, families living in makeshift shelters near Tijuana will be able to move into more permanent homes.
They will have to do everything, from preparing the ground and mixing cement to putting on the doors and windows in one week.
"It’s something so positive that they’re doing," Ms. Silakoski said.
On auction day, bidders can write their bid on a prepared sheet by the item they wish to win and update it as the day goes on. At 3 p.m., bidding on silent auction items will end and the highest bidder takes the prize.
Tickets for the Tricky Tray auction items can be purchased in advance for $10 per sheet or $15 on auction day. At the auction, bidders can drop as many tickets into the container nearest the item they wish to win. At 2 p.m., tickets will be drawn to determine the winners.
Items up for auction include a weekend on Hatteras Island, N.C., a stainless steel kitchen cookware set, jewelry, gift certificates, tickets to sporting events and more.
