Arthur A. Gafencu, 77, died Monday, May 8, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
He was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, before moving to Detroit in the early 1950s, then to Boca Raton, Fla., in 1978, and then to Kendall Park in 1989. He was the owner-operator of the Boca Raton Motel for 11 years until he retired in 1989.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Germany in 1950.
His parents, Nickolas and Mary Gafencu, and his brother, George, are deceased. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Michael, and his wife, Denise Haleluk; three daughters, Dorothy Ann and her husband, Bob Sica, Deborah and her husband, James Gafencu, and Margaret and her husband, Gary Casaletto; three brothers, Dan, Modest and James Gafencu, all of Saskatchewan, Canada; eight grandchildren, Gary and Michael Casaletto, Christina Patti, Lisa Benevento, Bobbiann Gumbinger, Trisha Matticoli, Cheri Valdiviesco and Tony CaSaletto; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, at 9:15 a.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Ave., New Brunswick, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Augustine’s R.C. Church in Kendall Park, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Brunswick. Family and friends may visit Thursday, May 11, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
