JACKSON – The very best of Jackson Memorial High School’s athletic teams have been recognized for their superior abilities and success.
“Tonight we have the pleasure of
recognizing several different teams from Jackson Memorial High School whose commitment to excellence has once again set them apart from the crowd,” Board of Education member John Morvay said at the May 2 meeting.
“First, we are proud to recognize the boys bowling team which this year earned the title of Northern Ocean County division champions,” Morvay said.
Representing the team was captain Dan Beagan, who addressed his teammates and distributed certificates to the team members.
“It was a great year for bowling,” said Morvay. “The girls bowling team earned the Northern Ocean County division championship as well.”
Coach Carrie Scott congratulated the members of her team, as certificates were distributed to team members by board members Gus Acevedo and Martin Spielman.
It was also a successful winter season for the Jaguars boys and girls track teams.
“We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of the boys indoor track team, which earned the title of Ocean County champions,” said Morvay.
Coach Walter Krystopik and several of his assistant coaches distributed certificates to the team members.
Multiple titles were earned by the girls track team, including the accomplishment of being the state Group IV champions. The team’s other achievements include being county relay champions, county individual champions and Shore Conference champions.
Coaches Louise Agoston and Jennifer Leahy congratulated the team members as they handed out the certificates of achievement.
Another Jackson Memor-ial success story this year was the girls basketball team, which clinched the Shore Conference A South Division championship.
Coach Rachel Goodale distributed certificates to all of the team members.
“JMHS can be equally proud of their cheerleading team, which clinched a multitude of championships and titles this year,” Morvay told those in attendance. “They earned first place in Ocean County, first place in the regionals, first place in the state and placed No. 9 in the nation. I’d like to call up Coach Kathryn Kavanaugh and all the assistant coaches to help recognize this team for their incredible year.”
Morvay then called the Jackson wrestling team to the podium and said, “The accomplishments of our wrestling team were so numerous they barely fit onto the certificates we are about to hand out.”
Wrestling team honors included the Shore Conference A South Division championship, the Shore Conference championship, the Central Jersey championship, the district championship and the state Group IV championship.
Additionally, the Jaguars were
named the No. 1 team in New Jersey.

to the team members.
Morvay praised the student-athletes and their coaches, and noted that the winter campaign was an amazing season.
