MILLSTONE – Three township students received accolades last week from the Board of Education.
During the Millstone Township Board of Education’s May 8 meeting, Superintendent of Schools William Setaro recognized Danielle Galipo, Nikki Barbaree and Jonathan Pekar for their accomplishments in three separate contests, according to Louise San Nicola, the school district’s public information officer.
Galipo received recognition for recently winning the Dr. Norman J. Field Student Recognition Award from the Monmouth County School Boards Association, according to San Nicola.
The district honored Barbaree for winning second place in the Asbury Park Press Student Voices Essay Contest. Published on April 25, Barbaree’s essay answered the question, “If you could ask the president one question not related to the Iraqi war, what would it be?”
“Her essay was an extremely powerful one describing how important stem cell research is to curing diseases,” San Nicola said. “She has diabetes.”
Pekar also received recognition from the school district for winning the Luna Kaufman Writing Contest, which was sponsored by the Center for Holocaust Studies at Brookdale Community College, located in the Lincroft section of Middletown. According to Nicola, he won a $50 savings bond.
