Pennington Day needs community support Saturday

Much-needed rain has come to the area this week, and for that, we are glad, because it was getting pretty dry.
We hope, of course, that the recent wet spell will end by Friday, in time for Hopewell Valley Historical Society’s Spring Social at Hopewell Valley Vineyards. This event will serve as a prelude to Pennington Day, coming up Saturday.
Various weather forecasts seem to agree on what might happen Friday and Saturday. The general consensus is that there is a 30 percent change of showers Friday evening and a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday.
But, for the sake of the many, many people who have been working to bring Pennington Day to the Valley again on Saturday, let’s be optimistic. This event — which began in 1980 as a fundraiser to help The Pennington School recover from a fire that destroyed O’Hanlon Hall that January — continues to help deserving community groups. According to a spokesman, "all money raised from area businesses, corporations and individuals is disbursed later and given back to nonprofit organizations in Hopewell Valley in the form of grants."
So, for the sake of those nonprofit groups, community togetherness and just plain fun, plan to make Pennington Day part of your plans for this weekend. It’s a tradition that deserves everyone’s support.
