The Domino’s Pizza restaurant was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money by a man who indicated he had a gun Monday afternoon, said police Lt. Thomas Ritter.
A man walked into the restaurant, at 2901 Brunswick Pike, at 3:50 p.m. and ordered a pizza, Lt. Ritter said. There were no other patrons in the store at the time, he said.
As the 25-year-old clerk began to fill the order, the man walked around the counter and, with his hand under his shirt, told the employee to open the cash register and give him the money, Lt. Ritter said.
The robber claimed to have a gun and threatened to shoot the man if he did not open the cash register and hand over the money, Lt. Ritter said. The robber did not display a weapon, but he placed his hand underneath his shirt and gestured as if he did have a gun, Lt. Ritter said.
After the employee gave him the money, the man told him to walk to the back of the store. As the employee walked to the back of the restaurant, the man ran from the building, Lt. Ritter said.
The employee called the police, who searched the area but could not find the man, Lt. Ritter said. The robber was described as a white man, about 35 to 40 years old and who stood about 6 feet tall. He weighed about 240 pounds. He had short brown hair and was unshaven.
The man was wearing a gray sweatshirt with a collar and a short zipper, faded jeans and dark plastic sunglasses.
The incident is being investigated by Patrolman Robert Potter and Detective James Vardenega. Persons with information may call Detective Vardenega at (609) 896-1111.
