Mailed absentee ballot applications must be received by Mercer County clerk by May 30
The League of Women Voters of Hopewell Valley reminds voters that there is still time to get an absentee ballot for the upcoming June 6 primary election. Polls will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
Mailed absentee ballot applications must be received by the Mercer County clerk by May 30. Applications can be downloaded at www.lwvnj.org and www.njelections.org. They also are available in the municipal offices in Pennington, Hopewell Borough and Hopewell Township, and the Mercer County Clerk’s office in Trenton.
Voters also may apply for an absentee ballot in person at the County clerk’s office by 3 p.m. on June 5.
In New Jersey, voters must vote the political party of their affiliation in primary elections. Those who have never been affiliated with a specific party may vote in the primary for candidates of any political party. Thereafter, the party of the candidates they selected will be the party of the voter’s affiliation, unless they change it by filing a "Political Party Affiliation Declaration Form."
The following seats will be on June 6 primary ballots in Hopewell Valley: one US senator (six-year term); one member of the House of Representatives (two-year term); one Mercer County surrogate (five-year term); three members of the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders (three-year terms); and members of the Republican and Democratic County Committees (two-year terms).
Hopewell Borough will elect two members of council (three-year terms); Hopewell Township will elect one member of the committee (three-year term); and Pennington will elect a mayor (unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2007) and two members of council (three-year terms).
