“Wellness Around The World,” a food and wine event honoring people affected by cancer, will take place on Thursday evening, May 25, at the Sheraton Eatontown at 6:30 p.m. The shore area’s best restaurants will serve some of their favorite foods, accompanied by delicious wines, sake, tequila and beer. The event is sponsored by The Wellness Community, a national organization that is the largest support program in the country devoted solely to providing free psychological and emotional support to people with cancer and their families and caregivers. It is supported by tax-deductible individual, corporate and foundation gifts and grants.
The Wellness Community, Northern Jersey Shore – The Diney Goldsmith Center (TWC-NJS) was formed through a collaboration between Ilene Winters, who lost her mother to ovarian cancer in 2004, and Barry Goldsmith, who lost his wife Diney to breast cancer in the same year.
The Wellness Center keeps alive Diney Goldsmith’s dream of providing complimentary therapies to people affected by cancer.
TWC-NJS will serve Monmouth and Ocean counties. Pivotal to serving this area, is a homelike setting where people affected by cancer can come for support, education, social events, nutrition and cooking classes, professionally guided relaxation, visualization and meditation sessions, art and music therapy programs.
A free-standing 4,000-5,000 square-foot- building as a permanent home for TWC-NJS is being sought. Proceeds from this fund-raiser will go directly toward finding and opening the site.
