Sophomore Kim Fearnbach slid into home plate to end the game as the Hopewell Valley Central High School girls softball team won the Mercer County championship for the first time since 1982.
The Bulldogs edged Steinert, 3-2, with Fearnbach scoring as sophomoreRosie Rarich laid down a bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Hopewell Valley junior pitcher Courtney Sorg struck out seven and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
The Bulldogs were the seventh-seed in the tournament, Steinert was the fifth-seed.
