A 41-year-old Friendship Road man faces drug-possession charges after police said they found a half-pound of marijuana in his home while investigating a break-in there Friday.
Police said Robert Fleishman turned himself in at police headquarters at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and was charged with possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana. He was processed and released, police said.
Detective James Ryan, department spokesman, said Mr. Fleishman was not arrested at the scene because investigators wanted to first determine whether he was selling the marijuana or using it himself, as he contended. Investigators determined that Mr. Fleishman was using it himself, Detective Ryan said.
The offense is a third-degree crime and Mr. Fleishman could face a maximum of three to five years in prison, Detective Ryan said.
Mr. Fleishman called police Friday at 1:15 p.m. after he returned home and discovered that his house had been ransacked, police said.
When officers arrived they began investigating the crime scene, police said. Then an evidence technician came to the residence and searched a bedroom closet and found a bowling bag containing a separate bag of marijuana, police said.
Police are still investigating the break-in, which they say occurred sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Friday. Police said jewelry and a laptop computer with a combined value of several thousand dollars were taken from the residence.
