The New Egypt High School girls’ lacrosse team made it as close as possible, but was eliminated from the state playoffs this past Saturday against St. John Vianney, 9-8.
"It was a very competitive game that either team could have won at any time," noted New Egypt Coach Jeff Murray. "It was an awesome game to be part of."
Lisa Malloy recorded five goals and an assist in the game. Margaret Ecke, Heather Garces and Katie Hamilton added a goal and an assist each.
"We were actually up 8-7, but they tied it and then got the game winner with four minutes left to play," Murray said.
Brittany Laning turned in an excellent game in goal, saving 13 of the 22 shots taken against her.
"She played as well as any goalie could have in the playoffs," Murray said.
Murray was also impressed by the play of Malloy and defenders Lisa Marcigliano, Tara Adamovich.
"I couldn’t have asked for a better day from my seniors," Murray said. "They were great leaders. They were an inspiration for the younger girls."
