The man who made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from a Kendall Park bank Monday may be the same bandit who robbed a Woodbridge bank earlier this month, police said Tuesday.
Police said the man described as black, 5-foot, 7 inches tall, thin to medium build and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap and blue jeans robbed the Sun National Bank on Route 27 at 2:45 p.m. Monday.
The man waited on line at the bank and handed the note to a teller, South Brunswick Police Detective James Ryan said. The note demanded cash and said the robber had a gun, Detective Ryan said. The man did not show a gun during the robbery, he said.
After several minutes, he was given cash and left the bank, running north on Route 27, Detective Ryan said. Police are trying to confirm if the man got into a car on the side of the Exxon station at the intersection of New Road and Route 27, Detective Ryan said. The gas station is just north of the bank on Route 27.
The bank’s video surveillance was able to capture several images of the robber, Detective Ryan said.
There were five employees and a customer in the bank at the time of the robbery, he said. No one was injured during the robbery, Detective Ryan said.
Township police and the agents from the FBI’s Franklin office are working together on the case, Detective Ryan said. He said police and the FBI believe the robbery is connected to a May 10 robbery of the Bank of America on Main Street in Woodbridge, but could not provide additional details.
