Suspect arrested in drug bust

OCEAN TOWNSHIP – An Asbury Park man was arrested for possession of drugs last week.

According to police on May 11, members of the Ocean Township Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau, Special Assignment Unit and Patrol Bureau received a tip that illegal drugs were to be delivered to the Jockey Lodge Motel on Route 35 in the township.

At about 8 p.m., Renald R. Johnson, 28, arrived at the motel. When officers attempted to speak to him, they said he tried to swallow a bag of powder cocaine.

Johnson was arrested, and police said he was also in possession of a large chunk of crack cocaine.

He was charged with possession of cocaine under 1 ounce, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, loitering to distribute controlled substances, hindering an investigation, tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.

Judge Joel Kriezman of the Ocean Township Municipal Court set bail at $40,000 with no 10 percent option. Johnson was held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in default of bail.
