Princeton and West Windsor plan parades
Area communities are planning a variety of events to commemorate the Memorial Day weekend.
Princeton
The annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held in Princeton Borough starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The parade will travel down Nassau Street from Princeton Avenue to the Princeton Battle Monument at Borough Hall, where a ceremony following the parade will begin at 11 a.m.
This year’s parade, which is sponsored by the Spirit of Princeton committee, will especially focus on veterans, organizer Teri McIntire said. An open-air trolley that will transport veterans from their cars at Princeton Borough Hall to the start of the parade and along the route will be offered for the convenience of veterans. The trolley will return to Borough Hall for the ceremony. All veterans are invited to ride on the trolley and no registration is required. Those who would like to ride the trolley should meet at 9:15 a.m. at Borough Hall.
Also, the patriotic bicycle brigade will provide children with the opportunity to participate in the parade. All children in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to decorate a bicycle, wagon or tricycle and ride it in the parade. Children who wish to be in the patriotic bicycle brigade must be accompanied by an adult and should meet at 9:15 a.m. at the corner of Murray Place and Aiken Avenue, where a volunteer will assist them. No registration is required.
The parade line of the march will feature the Princeton Borough Police Department and Color Guard, the Princeton Township Police Department and Color Guard, Rotary Club of Princeton, the Princeton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a number of local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, local athletic teams, antique cars and more.

The borough is organizing a Memorial Day service starting at 10 a.m. Monday at Panicaro Park to honor America’s veterans.
Borough Councilman Brad Merritt said the Rev. William Schutter will lead those attending Monday’s service in prayer, and retired Lt. Col. Mary Germaine will speak and reflect on the holiday.
"It’s a tribute to honor our veterans who have given their lives for us in preservation of our freedoms," said Mr. Merritt, who is organizing the event.
Borough Council President Richard Batchelder will be presiding over the ceremony, as Mayor George Morren will not be in town that weekend, Mr. Merritt added.
