PLAINSBORO — Sgt. Joseph Duffy and Emergency Services Technician Frank Bertone have received awards for "Facilitation of Public/Private Sector Cooperation" in recognition of their work with the Community Emergency Response Team program.
"Sgt. Duffy and EST Bertone have worked tirelessly to make the Plainsboro program a model for other communities," Capt. Elizabeth Bondurant wrote in her recommendation. "Their commitment, dedication and exuberance are evidenced by each student who participates in the training program and those qualities have been the reason for its overwhelming success."
Through CERT, volunteers learn to respond in case of emergency, from searching for missing children to assisting law enforcement agents following a natural disaster or terrorist attack.
The program involves various segments of the community, from senior citizens at the Windrows senior living facility to employees at American Re-Insurance. Over 130 volunteers have been trained in Plainsboro.
