LAMBERTVILLE A concert will be held Friday in the gym at Lambertville Public School in memory of Anthony "Jody" Suozzo IV of Stockton.
Six rock bands will perform, including two in which Mr. Suozzo sang and played guitar, Fire Season and Engage the Days.
One of the other bands, Married to the Sea, is flying in from England to remember the young man they met and played music with while he studied mediation and conflict resolution in their country.
"He was the big link for everyone," said Christian Giannelli of Lambertville, one of Mr. Suozzo’s close friends and a member of Fire Season.
Mr. Suozzo died in a boating accident on the Delaware River in January while celebrating his 26th birthday.
"I don’t want to remember him for how he died," Mr. Giannelli said. "I want to remember his life and what was important to him."
The concert will see one of Mr. Suozzo’s bands come full circle. The school gym is the site where he and Mr. Giannelli first performed publicly together in Fire Season.
Fire Season now consists of Mr. Giannelli, Brian Fahey of Flemington and Mike Falcone and Kris Knechel, both of Lambertville.
Mr. Suozzo and friends had an annual tradition of celebrating spring’s arrival with their musical concerts.
"This is the first year we’re doing it without him," Mr. Giannelli said. "We’re trying to make it a tribute to him."
Some aspects of this year’s concert will be "emotional," he said.
"I think it’ll be pretty tough," Mr. Giannelli added. "It’s been weird playing the music; playing in the band. I played with him for eight years, and now not seeing him there. . ."
Despite the sadness, he added, "We’re doing this for Jody, and it’s going to be good energy."
The concert will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., and all are welcome to attend. Tickets are not being sold, but a donation of $5 is suggested at the door.
After costs are met, all proceeds will be donated to the Delaware Riverkeeper.
