SCORE Chapter 36 of Monmouth County was recognized by the Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce at the 2006 Circle of Excellence Awards, held recently at the Battleground Country Club in Manalapan. Charles E. Vastbinder accepted the award for his chapter.
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) is a national association of volunteer business experts who are committed to helping owners of small businesses with professional guidance and information, free of charge.
Besides making more than 1,800 business contacts during 2005, Chapter 36 participated as judges for yearly regional and state DECA competitions, and are now evaluating business plans for students in the Freehold Regional High School Business Learning Center. DECA is a marketing club for high school students.

Neil Betoff of Marlboro, president of STAR Building Services of New Jersey and Philadelphia, announced the new name of his company, formerly known as STAR Contract Cleaning, and the new location of his New Jersey office from Broad Street in Eatontown to 167 Avenue of the Common in Shrewsbury. The larger office will house administration, operations and sales for New Jersey. The name was changed to better reflect the custodial, janitorial, cleaning and maintenance services the company offers to owners and managers of industrial, commercial and institutional buildings, according to Betoff.
With the acquisition of Performance Maintenance of Eatontown in 2003, Betoff expanded the 16-year-old, Philadelphia-based company into New Jersey and changed its name to STAR Contract Cleaning Co. STAR Building Services of New Jersey employees 85 cleaning specialists and janitorial custodians.
Betoff earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy, and worked as a certified public accountant for several years before beginning a career in real estate development and investments. He is a member of the Corporate Resource Alliance, Building Owners Management Association, Community Association Institute, and Building Services Contractors Association International.
CentraState Healthcare System, Freehold Township, announced that it now offers the most advanced technology to generate sharp, three-dimensional images of internal organs in seconds.
The so-called 64-slice scanner shows radiologists computed tomography images with several times more detail and speed than standard CT scanners in use today at most hospitals and diagnostic centers, according to the press release.
“This state-of-the-art machine gives us unprecedented speed, detail and consistency,” Barry Friedenberg, M.D., chair of CentraState’s radiology department and director of Freehold Radiology, stated in the press release. “It give us the ability to image problems and suspected pathology that previously could only be viewed using invasive procedures.”
The new CT scanner, manufactured by Philips Medical Imaging, produces 64 narrow images, each of which is thinner than a penny, and stacks the “slices” into a single 3-D image on a computer screen.
Later this summer, the capabilities of the device will be expanded to perform noninvasive scanning of coronary arteries.
The new scanner is at the Freehold Radiology office in the Donna O’Donnell Medical Arts Building adjacent to CentraState Medical Center. The practice also will offer virtual colonoscopy, a noninvasive method of imaging the colon.
Babies “R” Us will host a “Nursery Know-How Workshop” July 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Manalapan store, 17 Route 9 south. There will be seminars and informal discussion on how to select furniture and decor for the new baby’s room.
Cousins Realty LLC announced the opening of Cousins Plaza, 843 Route 33, Freehold Township, at Kozloski and Halls Mills roads.
According to owners Alan Yoss and Howard Topal, the 25,000-square-foot plaza is home to Dunkin’ Donuts, Subway, Bella Italia Pork Store, Romeo’s Pizza, Klay With Me Party Store, Jet Dry Cleaners, Orchid Nail Salon, Occasions Gifts, and Laser Save, a laser printer service center. There is also office space available. The plaza has incorporated the latest in telecommunications and Internet access to meet tenant needs, according to the press release.
Mark Andras of Freehold has been promoted to principal engineer at T&M Associates, an engineering and planning firm in Middletown.
Andras, who has been with T&M Associates since 1997, has served as senior staff engineer, performing structural designs and field studies for various departments within the organization. In his new role as principal engineer, he will be responsible for sanitary sewer rehabilitation projects in T&M Associates’ environmental division.
Andras graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science in civil engineering. He holds OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Confined Space, NHI Bridge Inspection and NJ Transit Safety Training certifications.
Peter Enge, a registered nurse who resides in Marlboro, has been named a winner in the annual nursing awards program at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. The program is held in honor of National Nurses Week. Each year, the hospital selects its winners from a pool of nominees who are chosen by their peers.
Enge took second-place honors in the Patient Care Services essay contest. Contestants submitted an original essay, poem or short story that best described their feelings and pride in the professional practice of nursing.
