The following weekly camp programs will be taking place at or departing from Cattus Island County Park, Toms River, this summer. Pre-registration is mandatory for all programs. “H2O Camp” will take place July 5-7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Campers will explore freshwater, brackish, and saltwater habitats, go seining, crabbing, swimming, and visit the newly opened Adventure Aquarium. in Camden. There will be an admission fee of $14 per child for Adventure Aquarium July 7. This program is open to children 9-13 years old and the fee is $75 per child.
“Nutty About Nature” will take place July 17- 20 and Aug. 21-24, from 1-3:30 p.m. The four-day camp will instill a healthy attitude toward the environment through hands-on activities and games. This program is open to children 6-8 years old and the fee is $40 per child.
“Kids Across New Jersey” will take place July 24-28 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Campers will go hiking, climbing, and exploring the many state parks of New Jersey, including High Point, Stokes, Ringwood, Batsto, and Cape May. They will examine nature up close and personal, as well as delve deep into the rich, exciting history of New Jersey. This program is open to children 9-13 years old and the fee is $150 per child.
“Beach Ecology Day Camp” will take place Aug. 1-3 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Beach Ecology Camp stresses the importance of the state’s barrier beaches through the use of hands-on activities.
Campers will explore Island Beach State Park and Long Beach Island from ocean to bay, stopping to do a little seining and beachcombing along the way. Campers will bring home a plaster mold, a bag full of beach treasures and a newfound appreciation for this fragile ecosystem. This program is open to children 9-13 years old and the fee is $70 per child.
“Summer Sampler Day Camp” will take place Aug. 7-11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Campers will learn to canoe, compete in beach volleyball, swim, scavenger hunt, build sandcastles, create artwork, play tennis, print fish, go crabbing and seining, and tour the Barnegat Bay by boat. This program is open to children 9-12 years old and the fee is $150 per child.
“Junior Paleontologist Camp” will take place Aug. 14-17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Junior paleontologists will discover the world of New Jersey fossils. From the huge sharks and early reptiles to the smallest squids and brachiopods, New Jersey. is home to many fossilized remains. Campers will visit a fossil museum, learn about the earth’s history, build a fossil sifter and prepare for the big expedition to be held on the final two days of camp. This program is open to children 9-13 years old and the fee is $100 per child.
