The New Jersey Marine Science Consortium’s (NJMSC) New Jersey Sea Grant Program has been awarded approximately $1 million from the Department of Commerce/NOAA National Sea Grant College Program to support research projects and outreach activities for the next year.
Matching funds from the state and private sources will bring the sea grant college program’s total operating budget for 2006-07 to more than $1.5 million. The federal grant will sponsor five major research projects and more than 12 extension and education programs and special projects to be managed by NJMSC, Sandy Hook.
The federal funding will also support the work of the New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Program, whose staff assists state residents in commercial and recreational fishing, aquaculture, coastal tourism, and coastal ecosystem health.
