On Saturday, July 1, the township of Ocean will hold its 14th annual July Fourth Celebration at Joe Palaia Park. Festivities begin at 6-11 p.m. Bring your own picnic or purchase food from the vendors while you enjoy music by Smooth Sailing. There will be clowns, face-painting, pony rides and a petting zoo for children and fireworks will begin at dusk. Rain date is Sunday, July 2. The Greater Township of Ocean Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the West Park Recreation Complex, entrance on east side of building. The program following the meeting is open to the public and deals with the timely topic of the environment to be presented by Brian Unger, former candidate for Freeholder on the Green Party ticket. Under sunny skies, about 350 persons ate, drank and played at last Saturday’s “Beach Bash” fundraiser at the Sea Bright Municipal Beach and parking lot to make the fourth annual event the most successful one yet, according to Felecia Stratton, co-chairwoman of the borough’s recreation committee. For four hours straight, revelers of all ages took in the all-you-can-eat barbecue, live music and dancing, games, and even a drum circle demonstration. The borough’s recreation committee, which sponsors the annual event , uses the proceeds to purchase equipment and run recreation programs for children and families in Sea Bright.

The Long Branch Free Public Library on Lincoln Avenue at the Elberon Branch Library will host a “Meet the Doctors part III” forum on June 28 from 7-9 p.m. at which area doctors will discuss the advances and challenges facing their profession.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch will hold its 13th annual golf tournament on July 17 at Jumping Brook Country Club in Neptune. The event will offer a 7:30 a.m. and a 1 p.m. shotgun start followed by a buffet awards dinner and a silent auction of gift baskets and donations. In addition, there will be several hole-in-one contests with a prizes of $10,000 or a new vehicle. Funds from the event will also go toward rooms in area hospitals for use by families when their child is a patient.
