Ryan Kelly of Jackson was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y, where he is an English and textual studies major in the College of Arts and Sciences. He will be a sophomore in the fall.
Kyle T. Smith of Jackson, a student at Ocean County College, Toms River, has been chosen as a Beacon Scholar. He presented his paper on social justice titled “Taking the Road More Traveled” at the Beacon Conference for Student Scholars, which was held June 2 at Dutchess Com-munity College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The conference is an annual event that recognizes and celebrates the achievements of two-year college students in research and writing. Smith was mentored by David Bordelon, associate professor of English and literature at OCC.
Lauren Anne Bleimann, daughter of Lucille and Kenneth Bleimann of Jackson, graduated May 15 from Rutgers’ School of Social Work at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, with a master of social work degree. She achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the spring semester.
Katelyn Emilie Ackermann, daughter of June and Mark Ackermann of Howell, received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Delaware, New-ark, Del., at commencement exercises on May 28. A psychology education and history major, Ackermann student-taught at Concord High School in Wilmington, Del., and earned her bachelor’s degree in three years. She has been offered a teaching position for the 2006-07 school year with the Freehold Regional High School District, where she is tentatively scheduled to teach history and psychology at Freehold Township and Colts Neck high schools. Ackermann is a 2003 graduate of Freehold Township High School.
Alison L. Toohey, daughter of Suzanne and Daniel Heulitt of Howell and William J. Toohey of Freehold, has earned a place on the dean’s list for the spring semester at Rider University, Lawrenceville, where she is a student in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Erin O’Grady, daughter of Laurie and Michael O’Grady of Howell, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass., where she is majoring in communications. O’Grady earned first honors with a 4.0 grade point average and will begin her senior year in the fall.
Joseph Steinbronn of Howell was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, an engineering and science university in Rapid City, S.D. He is majoring in chemical engineering.
Shaun Currie of Jackson has been named to the dean’s list at Villanova Uni-versity, Villanova, Pa., for exceptional academic performance during the spring semester. He is a student in the university’s College of Commerce and Finance.
Rachel Truhan of Howell was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society on May 5 at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del.
Michael C. DaSilva of Howell recently graduated from Keystone College, La Plume, Pa., with a bachelor of science degree.
Patrick J. Robinson, son of Patricia and William Robinson of Jackson, has graduated summa cum laude from the Newark College of Engineering (NCE) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering, with a minor in applied mathematics. He was a member of NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College and a dean’s list student for all four years. Robinson received the 2006 NCE Overall Outstanding Senior Award and the 2006 Otto H. York Department of Chemical Engineering Outstanding Senior Award. In addition, he was the recipient of the American Institute of Chemists Award and the Dr. Joseph Joffe Distinguished Professor Emeritus Merit Award, as well as the Amerada Hess, Schering-Plough and Stillman scholarships. Robinson is a computer applications engineer at the ConocoPhillips Bayway Refinery, Lin-den, and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in chemical engineering in the fall at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. A 2002 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, he plays bass guitar in his band, The Occasionals, whose proceeds have helped benefit many causes, such as the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Kelly David of Howell was among the students honored on May 7 at Fair-leigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham Campus, Madison, for achieving outstanding success in their chosen majors. David received an award for Outstanding Leadership and Contri-bution to Student Life during FDU’s annual Senior Academic Achievement and Leadership Program.
