The Old Bridge Tornados touched down in Hershey, Pa., on Father’s Day weekend to participate in the Kicks 4 Kids Charity Soccer Tournament. The Tornados were successful in winning three of four games in the top flight of their age group. In the first game the Tornados defeated a talented CNY United Storm team, hailing from Syracuse, N.Y., by the score of 5-1. They then defeated the York United Academy, of Pennsylvania, by the score of 6-2. These preliminary round games were to set the seeding for the semifinal and final games to follow. In the Tornados semifinal bracket game, they faced off against the Hillsborough Blast of N.J. and came away with an exciting and hard fought 2-1 win. In the other semifinal game the CNY United Storm were making their way to the finals by defeating the other bracket’s 1 seed: the East Islip Metrostars. In a keenly played Championship game, with each team trading opportunities and goals, it was the Storm capitalizing last and avenging their earlier loss to the Tornados to win by the score of 3-2. The deserving Tornados game MVPs (selected by the opposing coaches) of the previously mentioned games respectively, were: Anthony Indelicato (team spirit), Jake Connors (six goals on the weekend), Peter Krzewinski (three goals on the weekend) and Amando Moreno (three goals on the weekend). These players were supported in a well-balanced attack by wingers Tanner Lyons (one goal), Michael Guzzo and Christina Shannon; who also contributed valuable ball distribution to the attack from the center midfield position.

Stellar net-minding duty was turned in by Tristan Norcutt, and the team’s defensive performance was bolstered by outstanding play from a backfield of Nicholas Carrington, Bhairav Mehta and Andrew Stetson. Reports from Old Bridge Doppler Radar has the Tornados headed to MOSA U11B Premier this coming fall 2006.

The Old Bridge Chaos 14U girls softball team, playing out of Cheesequake Softball Association, improved their overall record to 16-6 this weekend by capturing second place in the B bracket of the Beach Bum Classic in Manahawkin. After a tough 1-2 start on Saturday the girls came back during Sunday’s single-elimination tournament, winning their first game against the Shore Shock, 5-3. In the semifinal game against Toms River White the Chaos gave up a three-run lead in the top of the fifth, then came back to score the winning run in the sixth to advance into the championship game against North Edison. In the final game against North Edison the Chaos had several scoring opportunities but in the end had to settle for second place, losing to a strong hitting North Edison team, 9-3.

This is their second top-two finish in their first two weekend tournaments of the 2006 season. The Chaos took first place in the Jersey Shore 2006 Memorial Day Beach Blast going undefeated in five games over two days during the Memorial Day weekend.

The team consisting of Janine Averbach, Elaina Boncich, Lauren Deats, Danielle Duffy, Krystal Godowski, Ashley Harper, Kristin Hart, Brittany Horan, Amy Layton, Jillian Martin, Courtney Mikos, Elaina Sceusa, Rory Skene, Lizzie Sobol and Stefanie Solari, have come out strong in all of their games, bolstered by strong pitching, hitting and excellent defensive play.

The team is looking forward to playing in the Blaze into Summer tournament in Branchburg starting on June 24.
