Township Council plans to hit the road next week, holding the second of three planned community meetings at the Lawrenceville Fire Co. on Tuesday, according to Mayor Michael Powers.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the firehouse, which is located on Gordon Avenue in the village of Lawrenceville.
The idea is to visit neighborhoods one each in the northern, central and southern parts of the township so residents may meet with Township Council in an informal setting, Mayor Powers said.
The first meeting was held in April at the Lawrence Road Fire Co. The third meeting will be held at the Slackwood Fire Co. No date has been set for that meeting.
Township Council members will attend the meeting, along with Municipal Manager Richard Krawczun, Chief of Police Daniel Posluszny, Public Works Director Greg Whitehead and Superintendent of Recreation Steven Groeger, Mayor Powers said.
The focus on the June 27 meeting is northern Lawrence Township, the mayor said. If residents have any issues they would like to discuss, they should bring those issues to the council at that meeting, he said.
"If there are traffic issues or crime activity that we should be aware of as a council, this is the opportunity for residents to provide feedback to the council on an informal basis," Mayor Powers said.
Township Council meetings can be intimidating, he said. Residents must walk up to the podium, state their name and address for official township records and then talk, he said.
Residents may feel more at ease at a community meeting, Mayor Powers said. It will be possible to speak to the department heads, such as the police chief and the director of Public Works, and perhaps resolve an issue on the spot, he said.
