Robert G. Donald
Lifelong Princeton resident
Robert G. Donald of Princeton died Thursday at Merwick Rehab Hospital & Nursing Care. He was 86.
Born in Princeton, he was a lifelong Princeton resident.
He taught industrial arts for 35 years at Lawrence Junior High School.
He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners Local 782 for 59 years and a member of Mercer Engine Company No. 3 of the Princeton Fire Department for 52 years.
He was also a member of Princeton Lodge 38 Free and Accepted Masons and a past member of the New Jersey State Football Officials Association.
Mr. Donald was an elder at Second Presbyterian Church of Princeton, which later became Nassau Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for a total of 70 years.
A Princeton High School graduate, he was president of the class of 1938. He graduated from Trenton State Teachers College in 1947.
He served three years in the Coast Guard during World War II.
Husband of the late Ruth P.W. Donald, he is survived by daughters and son-in-law Catherine D. and Richard Volz of Ewing and Caren D. Berei of Princeton; brother Alexander B. Donald of Princeton; and grandchildren Cristin, Richard and Brian Volz and Catherine and Stephen Berei.
The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. today at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery.

Former Princeton resident
NEW BERN, N.C. Carol Hammann Christie died Friday at home after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a Princeton resident for over 20 years before retiring to New Bern in 1998.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and entertaining.
In North Carolina, she was a volunteer at The Red Caboose Library, sewed crafts with the Busy Bees and was a member of the Riverbend Garden Club, where she won many awards for her miniature dried floral arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Robert S. Christie; daughter Claudia Christie-Ashmore; son Colin M. Christie, five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Helen Maurer
Retired social worker
Helen Maurer of Princeton died Friday at home. She was 95.
Born in Beaver Falls, Pa., she had lived in Princeton for 56 years.
She was a social worker in the Rutgers Interdisciplinary Research Center and at the Carrier Clinic in Montgomery Township. Previously, she and her late husband spent several years teaching in China.
She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.
She was a member of the Princeton Friends Meeting and was one of the founders of the Princeton Friends School.
She was also a member of the American Red Cross, League of Women Voters and Mt. Holyoke Club of Princeton-Trenton.
Daughter of the late Dr. Dickson Lee Singleton and Helen Singleton, wife of the late Herrymon Maurer and mother of the late Thomas Maurer, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Ann and Nils Pearson of Princeton and Helen and Robert Morris of Rocky Hill; grandchildren Ann Swart, David Kalb, Hilary Kalb, Robert Morris, Katharine Osborn and Jeanne Wert; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Princeton Friends Meeting, 470 Quaker Road, Princeton.

DUXBURY, Mass. Marjorie Bergain Cornacchio died Wednesday at home. She was 82.
Raised in Pittsfield, Mass., she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1941, attended secretarial school and worked for the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield.
Daughter of the late John E. and Mildred Pratt Bergain, wife of the late William T. Goldsmith, who died in 1982, she is survived by her husband, John Cornacchio, whom she married in 1984; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Joel Heymsfeld of Princeton; son Robert Goldsmith of California; stepdaughters and husbands Janet Cornacchio and Richard Hom of Scituate, Mass., and Gina and Edward Leahy of Cohasset, Mass.; brothers-in-law Anthony, Robert and Alfred Cornacchio, all of New York; granddaughter Margaret Heymsfeld of New York; and stepgrandchildren Gregory Hom, John Leahy, Alexandra Leahy and Ryan Leahy.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. today at Second Congregational Church, 43 Highland Ave., Cohasset, Mass.

Montgomery resident
MONTGOMERY Rose A. Trasak died Friday at the Hunterdon Medical Center. She was 8l.
Born in Montgomery, she resided most of her life in Sylva, N.C., before moving back to Montgomery in August.
Mrs. Trasak was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and watching wildlife.
Daughter of the late John and Rosa Fileps, wife of the late Daniel Trasak Jr., mother of the late Kathryn Owl and Paul M. Trasak, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law Daniel S. and Marion Trasak of Sylva, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law Rosemarie and Joseph Giordano of Montgomery; grandchildren Joseph, Dawn, Katina, Michael, Ryan, Danny, Donny and Heather; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 71 E. Prospect St., Hopewell.
Inurnment will follow in St. Alphonsus Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
