The Junior Golf America’s 2006 Summer Tournament season got off to a hot start, both with the weather, and the scoring.

Steve Zychowski captured the Boys 14-15 Group with a 74. Three strokes back was runner-up Brendan O’Brien of Colts Neck with his 77. Westfield’s Nick LiVolsi shot an 80 and was third.

The 10-11 Group was won by Long Valley’s Nick Rencis, who carded a 36 for nine holes. Mendham’s Frank Szucs shot a 38 to take second and Packy Kennedy of Three Bridges was third (44).
The next stop on the tour is tomorrow at Sun Eagles Golf Club at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, with an 11 a.m. tee time.
This is the seventh year for the junior golf competition that was started by Englistown’s Chuck and Ginna DiLeo. It was designed to provide a place for junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 to compete in a series of tournaments across New Jersey while providing national exposure for college-bound golfers. The tournaments are for players of all skill levels.
This year, the competition has expanded to include New York State, which is the reason it changed its name from the New Jersey Junior Golf competition to Junior Golf America. For more information on Junior Golf America, visit www.jrgolfamerica.com or call (732) 683-9042.
