Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley, Middletown, earned the 2006 Ferris E. Lucas Sheriff of the Year Award at the National Sheriffs’ Association annual conference and exposition in mid-June. Oxley was chosen from more than 30 other formal nominees and was chosen from among the nearly 3,100 sheriffs nationwide. He is the first New Jersey sheriff to receive this award in the 66-year history of the organization.
Oxley has been a member of the Association since 1996 and is an active member of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Committee, Crime Prevention/Private Security Committee, Standards, Ethics, Education and Training Committee, and the Hurricane Katrina Law Enforcement Response Committee. He was recognized for his work in creating the “Senior Scan-Seniors Fighting Terrorism” program to teach the county’s seniors to be the eyes and ears of law enforcement. Oxley was a founding members in establishing a partnership between the Sheriffs’ Association of New Jersey, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service to form a Fugitive Task Force.
SCORE Chapter 36 of Monmouth County was recently recognized by the Western Monmouth County Chamber of Commerce at its 2006 Circle of Excellence Awards. The chapter was chosen for the diversity of its volunteering activities. The chapter offers counseling sessions locally at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown; Brookdale Learning Center, Long Branch; Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, Red Bank; Northern Monmouth Chamber, Middletown; Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch, Shrewsbury; and Middletown Township Public Library.

Bayshore Community Health Services, Holmdel, has announced the opening of an affiliated medical practice led by board-certified internist Lisa Golding-Granado, M.D., at 809 Route 36 north, Union Beach. Robert J. Pruchnik, Hazlet, has joined the staff at Parker McCay, Lawrenceville, as counsel in its school law group. He will concentrate his practice in the areas of school and public sector labor law, with particular emphasis on special education law. Prior to joining the firm, Pruchnik was a partner at the law firm of Kenney Gross Kovats Pruchnik Campbell and Parton. He received his law degree from Widener University School of Law, Delaware campus, and his bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College, Riverdale, N.Y. Pruchnik is a member of the American, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Monmouth County Bar associations.
Alliance Rehab, 250 Maple Place, Keyport, has announced its director Faheem A. Abbasi, M.D., FABPMR, has joined the medical staff at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Abbasi specializes in pain management and rehabilitation and is fellowship trained in interventional pain management. He will perform spinal procedures, epidurals and other joint injections at Bayshore. Prior to Alliance, Abbasi was at Southside Hospital of Bayshore, New York, where he founded its outpatient spinal center and performed interventional pain management procedures.
Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, was recently honored by the nonprofit Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) for participation in a national program, “The 100,000 Lives Campaign.” The Campaign is an 18-month program dedicated to preventing 100,000 unnecessary deaths nationwide by dramatically improving patient care. Bayshore’s pledge to the campaign includes implementation of several practices such as deploying rapid response teams to react and take action at the first sign of a patient’s decline, improving care for acute myocardial infarction, preventing adverse drug events, and other practices.
