MARLBORO – The Township Council has passed a resolution amending the contract between the municipality and its labor attorney.
The resolution was passed at the governing body’s June 15 meeting.
The 2006 contract for Matthew Giacobbe, of the firm Scarinci and Hollenbeck, LLC, to provide legal services to Marlboro on labor matters was for an amount not to exceed $25,000.
According to the council’s resolution, as a result of certain employment litigation and other labor matters, it is necessary to increase the total amount of Giacobbe’s contract from $25,000 to an amount not to exceed $70,000.
The resolution also amends the township’s contract with Giacobbe to authorize him to provide legal services on “such other matters as requested by the Director of the Department of Law.”
Councilman Jeff Cantor said Giacobbe’s raise was due in part to his work handling several disciplinary actions, lawsuits filed by employees and negotiations for new contracts.
Although Cantor said the township plans for contingencies, he said he is not sure exactly what pot the money for Giacobbe’s raise will come from.
Regarding any other legal services Giacobbe may provide in addition to labor matters, Cantor said that issue is between the attorney and the administration.
