George W. Garo
Mr. Garo, 77, of Howell, died June 13 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Thune, Switzerland, he came to the United States in 1954, settling in the Tottenville section of Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Howell in 1964. Before his retirement, Mr. Garo was a structural safety engineer for Public Service Mutual of New York for more than 33 years. He was a veteran of the Grenadier Swiss Army. He received his degree in engineering from New York University, New York City. Mr. Garo was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Chapter 182 of New Jersey. He had been a charter member of the Howell Police Department since before the formation of the full-time Howell police force, and was a part-time Class II police officer for the department. He was a past master mason at the Humboldt Lodge No. 512 Free & Accepted Masons, New York, and a member of the Olive Branch No. 16 Lodge, Freehold, and a past patron of the Molly Pitcher Lodge Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Club Worldwide and a member of the Blue Knits of New Jersey. Mr. Garo is survived by his wife, Tania Solenko Garo; a daughter, Randy Lee Garo of Tucson, Ariz.; adopted children Natasha and George Brick of Jackson; adopted grandchildren Walter and Elena Brick of Jackson; many cousins in Switzerland; and good friend Robert Browne of Howell. The funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Armando D. Cervantes
Mr. Cervantes, 25, of Freehold, died June 19 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. Born in Hoboken, he had lived in Union City and Jersey City before moving to Freehold. Mr. Cervantes was a concierge in New York City. He served with the U.S. Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also spent time in Mississippi helping victims of Hurricane Katrina. He was a 1999 graduate of Freehold Township High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team. Mr. Cervantes is survived by his mother and stepfather, Carmen and Robert O’Neill of Freehold; his father, Armando Cervantes of Mexico; a sister, Meghan O’Neill of Freehold; his maternal grandparents, Elba Minski of Orlando, Fla., and Alfred Taylor of New York City; his paternal grandmother, Micaela Cervantes of Mexico; and his paternal step-grandmother, Bridget O’Neill of Freehold. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Farmingdale, with the Rev. Michael Vona officiating. Interment followed at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, Burlington County. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Raymond E. Stolz Sr.
Mr. Stolz, 91, of Freehold, died June 15 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Weehawken and had lived in Freehold most of his life. Before his retirement, Mr. Stolz was an oil burner technician for Cagney & Byk, Tennent section of Manalapan. Prior to that, he was employed at Monmouth Petroleum, Englishtown, for 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was predeceased by a son, William Stolz, in 1989. Mr. Stolz is survived by his wife of 68 years, Cecelia Jaziorski Stolz; two sons, Raymond E. Stolz Jr. of Hershey, Pa., and John Stolz of Colts Neck; three daughters, Joan, at home, June Weisneck of Toms River, and Jean Scott of Connellsville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Sharon S. Culkin
Mrs. Culkin, 42, of Manalapan, died June 16. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there before moving to Manalapan 12 years ago. Mrs. Culkin was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Surviving are her husband, Walter; her children, Courtney, Walter, Nicolette and Michael, all at home; her parents, Fred and Josie Melero of Manalapan; and two sisters, Jean Castaldi of Freehold and Renee Melero of Arizona. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick. Dan Kullback
Dan Kullback, 16, of Manalapan, died June 18 in East Windsor. He was born in Opelousas, La., and was raised in Manalapan. Dan was a sophomore at Manalapan High School, where he was an active member of the sophomore student council and a member of both the boys track team and the freshman wrestling team. He also was a Boy Scout and a member of Aleph Zadik Aleph, B’nai B’rith. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Harvey Abramson. Surviving are his parents, Richard and Debra Kullback; his grandparents, Irving and Shirley Kullback of West Long Branch, and Sophia Abramson of Englishtown; his aunts and uncles, Janice and Bruce Wittmershaus of Erie, Pa., Shari and Bruce Canell of Marlboro, and Gwen and Byron Verosloff of Kendall Park; and several cousins. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood. Sue Carol Stalgaitis
Mrs. Stalgaitis, 87, of Whiting, died June 15 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Union, she had lived in Cliffside Park, Marlboro and Bayville, as well as in Onancock, Va., before moving to Whiting in 1994. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Stalgaitis was predeceased in 1994 by her husband, Joseph, and in 2005 by a son, James. Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Smith of Howell; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan, where interment followed. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements. Violet Hassell
Mrs. Hassell, 89, of Freehold, died June 14 at Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan. Born in Saba, Netherlands Antilles, she lived in Huntington on Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold five years ago. Before retiring in 1981, Mrs. Hassell was a saleswoman for Gertz Department Store, Queens, N.Y., for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellsworth, in 1964. Mrs. Hassell is survived by two sons, Everett Hassell of Freehold Township and Merrill Hassell of Manalapan; two daughters, Judy Vioreanu of Kinnelon and Jean Becker of Freehold; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Carl Gaboff
Mr. Gaboff, 73, of Manalapan, died June 19 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Manalapan 40 years ago. Mr. Gaboff was the owner of Blue Chip Courier Services, Manalapan, and had been in the transportation business for more than 50 years. He also owned thoroughbred and harness horses. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Gaboff was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Ann, in 2002; and a brother, Marvin, in 1978. Surviving are three sons, Alan and his wife Sharon, of Millstone, David, and Paul and Maggie; three daughters, Janet Leota and her husband Ken, Debra Vovk and her husband Lenny, and Brenda Reyes and her fianc Sandy; a brother, Jack and his wife Kay; a sister, Barbara of Florida; sisters-in-law Marie Miller of South Carolina, and Tissie Sorrentino and her husband Sal, of Long Island, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Marion E. Domis
Mrs. Domis, 82, of Freehold, died June 14 at Victoria House, Matawan. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she had lived in the Concord section of Staten Island before moving to Freehold 20 years ago. Mrs. Domis was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a former member of St. Sylvester’s Roman Catholic Church, Staten Island. She was predeceased by her husband, William Domis, in 1981; and a grandson, Warren. Mrs. Domis is survived by a son, Roger W. Domis; a daughter, Marilee May Decker; a twin sister, Dorothy Buffa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Helene M. Skoczylas
Mrs. Skoczylas, 69, of Howell, died June 16 at home. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., she had lived in New York City before moving to Howell in 1964. For the past 10 years, she held a clerical position with HealthSouth Rehabilitation, Freehold Township, and had previously been employed by Dr. Joseph Schauer in Farmingdale. Surviving are two sons, Brian Skoczylas of Horseheads, N.Y., and Michael Skoczylas of Galloway Township; two daughters, Debra Reed of Howell and Laura Wilson of Washington Township; and five grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Christ United Methodist Church, Lakewood, with the Rev. June Stitzinger-Clark officiating. Richard J. Rush
Mr. Rush, 76, of Manalapan, died June 22 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Floral Park, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan 34 years ago. Mr. Rush was a banker for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., New York City, where he was employed for 40 years before his retirement in 1992. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 13235, both of Perrineville section of Millstone. He was a 1947 graduate of St. Peter’s Preparatory School, Jersey City, and remained a supporter of the school. Mr. Rush is survived by his wife, Eileen Sweeney Rush; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard B. and Sharo Rush of Kennesaw, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Ken Goodman of Reading, Pa., and Bernadette and Bill O’Sullivan of Millstone; and six grandchildren.
