New classes begin July 3 at S. Brunswick center

The South Brunswick Senior Center has announced its July weekend hours, July 1 and 15 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. All outdoor equipment is now available for bocce, shuffleboard and horseshoes. One-on-one computer instruction is also offered weekends.

New sessions offered will be offered at the center beginning with oil painting July 3, and held Mondays at 9 a.m. for 10 weeks. Fee is $20. Watercolor will be held for 10 Mondays at 1 p.m. beginning July 3. Fee is $20. “Drawing with Helen” will be offered for 10 Wednesdays at 1 p.m. beginning July 5. Fee is $20. Landscape painting will be offered for four Fridays at 10:30 a.m. beginning July 7. Fee is $8. Registration for all new sessions is due one week prior to first class.

“Internet and E-mail” will be held in two classes July 6: 9:30-11:30 a.m., and 1-3 p.m. The four week program meets weekly, and fee is $40. Body ball exercise will begin July 11 at 10 a.m. The exercise ball is a treatment option for back pain sufferers and is designed to help prevent further episodes of low back pain. Cost is $12 for the six-week session. Participants must bring the body ball to first class.

A recipe party will be July 11 at 12:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a dish to share, as well as the recipe. Stroke screenings will be offered free July 13 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Screenings are sponsored by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in association with South Brunswick Health Department and South Brunswick Office on Aging. Appointments are required and may be made by calling (732) 937-8635. A pet show will be July 27 at 12:30 p.m. Attendees may bring a bird, cat, dog or any animal the attendee considers a baby. There will be prizes and refreshments.

Beginner’s birding walk at preserve July 15

Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands will a beginner’s birding walk July 15 at 9 a.m. at Mapleton Preserve, Route 27, Kingston section of South Brunswick. The free walk will be held rain or shine, and attendees should bring binoculars and bird books, if desiring to do so. Keys to successful bird identification will be highlighted. Attendees should take Route 27 to Academy Street, which turns into Mapleton Road, and the park is on the left. Call Karen at (609) 683-0483.
