The Muscular Dystrophy Association in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties is searching for summer camp volunteers who are looking for a rewarding and memorable experience. Volunteer counselors are needed to help young people with neuromuscular disease enjoy a fun-filled MDA summer camp Aug. 20-26 at Spring Valley, N.Y. Volunteer counselors must be at least 18 years old and able to lift and care for a young person between the ages of 6-21. Each counselor becomes a companion to a camper and helps with daily activities such as eating, bathing and dressing, and recreational.

Two scholarships were awarded to Red Bank public school students for the 2006 summer sailing program at Monmouth Boat Club. Miguel Flores, fifth grade, and Sierra Schloesser, sixth grade, at the Red Bank Charter School, were nominated by the principal and faculty for the Junior Sailing Program. MBC offers a comprehensive instruction program for juniors ranging in age from 8-18. Starting with the Introduction to Sailing course, they not only learn to sail but also get a solid grounding in boat handling, seamanship and water safety skills.
