Nurses recognized for service to patients

LONG BRANCH – Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch recently recognized the recipients of its annual nursing awards.

Susan Dulczak, of Sea Bright, received the Angela Gilvary Nurse Millennium Award, which recognizes nurses in management roles and acknowledges their leadership in management of ethical issues and challenges, development and implementation of new services and promoting excellence in clinical practice.

Dana Talbot, of Long Branch, received the Theresa Birmingham, R.N. Nursing Leadership Award, which recognizes the bedside registered nurse that possesses strong, unwavering leadership qualities.

Nilva Gamiao, of Eatontown, and Robin Cofer, of Ocean Township, received the Maysie Strook Award for Excellence in Nursing Caring, which is presented to two nurses who exemplify the finest patient care and excellence in nursing skills through personal and professional compassion.

Lori Frederick, of Hazlet, Carol Allen, of Toms River, and Jamel Descola, of Neptune, received the Nursing Excellence in Caring Award, which is generally presented to two nurses whose excellence at the bedside is invaluable to the nursing staff at the hospital, but this year there was a tie, so three nurses were awarded for their skills in clinical care.

Diane Stanaway, of Jackson, received the Nursing Excellence in Collaborative Practice Award for aiding the Emergency Depart-ment in doing what is best for the patients.

Louise O’Malley, of Little Silver, received the Monsignor Bradley Nursing Research and Education Award, which is presented to an nurse for their devotion and commitment to visiting and caring for the sick.

Nurse also submitted an original essay, poem or short story that best described their feeling and pride in the practice of nursing for the Monmouth Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services essay contest. Contest winners are: First place, Debra Weyhknecht, of Middletown; second place, Peter Enge, of Morganville; and third place, Vilma Palisoc, of Middletown.
