Edward C. Worden III
Mr. Worden, 64, of Ocean Township, died June 23 at home. Born in Wilmington, Del., he resided in Claymont, Del., and Fair Haven before moving to Ocean Township. Mr. Worden was a writer at American Metal Market, New York City, for 15 years, retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was a reporter for the Elizabeth Daily Journal. He served with the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a former member of Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 and a former member of Toastmasters International. He was named the 1985 Big Brother of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County. Mr. Worden is survived by his wife of 34 years, Eleanor Yates Worden; two stepdaughters, Leslie Mader of Middletown and Connie Bowden of Blacksburg, Va.; two sisters, Velita Worden of Nevada City, Calif., and Vickie Worden of Bel Air, Md.; and six step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held June 30 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Tower Hill in Red Bank. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. Sivert M. Drangeid
Mr. Drangeid, 74, of Little Silver, died June 12 at home. Born in Flekkefjord, Norway, he immigrated to the United States in 1957 with his wife, and relocated to Little Silver. He was director of corporate quality at Philips Lighting Company North America, retiring in 1997. He was a licensed professional engineer with several patents, and appointed to the Baldrige Board as a Malcolm Baldrige Examiner by the U.S. Department of Commerce. He served with the Norwegian Air Force. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Marlboro. He was an artist in both Europe and the United States. He also enjoyed ice skating and skiing. He is survived by his wife, Astrid Flikeid Drangeid; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elin D. and Steve McGuire of Bucks County, Pa., and Tina D. and Randy Cerce of Mullica Hill; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Eleanor Mary O’Neill Donnelly
Mrs. Donnelly, of Shrewsbury, died June 17 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in New York City, she relocated to Shrewsbury in 1954. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed time with her family. She was predeceased by two sisters, Joyce Briody and Helen Worden. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Donnelly; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita Donnelly Seaman and Michael of Rumson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bernie and Cathy Donnelly of Richmond, Va., Dennis and Cathy Donnelly of Little Silver, and Kenneth and Cathy Donnelly of Midlothian, Va.; two sisters, Marjorie O’Neill and Kathleen LaGamma; three brothers, William, Richard and Donald O’Neill; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Susan E. Birzin
Mrs. Birzin, 64, of Ocean Township, died June 16 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Atlantic City, she resided in Absecon prior to moving to Ocean Township in 1967. She was an elementary school teacher at Hillel School, Ocean Township, for 23 years, retiring in 2001. Presently, she was a naturalist for the Monmouth County Park System, Lincroft section of Middletown. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Asbury Park. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Alex Birzin; two sons and daughter-in-law, Alex F. and Elizabeth Birzin of Tinton Falls, and Thomas and Rachel Birzin of Ocean Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Gustave Trozzi of Brick; her mother, Vivian DiPalma; and six grandchildren.
