PHOTOS BY SCOTT FRIEDMAN Prachi Shah, 15, of Edison, performs her Arangetram, which means “ascending the stage,” at Crossroads Middle School North, South Brunswick, Sunday. The Arangetram is a series of complicated traditional Indian dances that mark a dancer’s first major performance and the completion of a dancer’s initial training. It is a ritual that takes years of training and commitment. Shah has been learning dance since she was 6 years old from her aunt and guru, Shrimathi Selvi Chandranathan.
