William Daley
Mr. Daley, 80, of Freehold Township, died June 25 at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Lakewood. Born in Long Branch, he was raised in Freehold and had lived in Howell for 50 years before moving back to Freehold three years ago. Prior to retiring in 1979, he was a milkman for Pleasant Plains Dairy, which was located in Ocean County. He then worked for Level Line in Lakewood. Mr. Daley was a life member and former chief of the Southard Fire Company, Howell, as well as a former member and past master of the Southard Grange, where he and his wife were avid dancers. He enjoyed sports and was active in the Howell Little League as both an umpire and a manager for more than 30 years. He also bowled in a league, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Joyce Daley; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy J. Daley of Freehold Township, William C. and Elaine Daley of Tinton Falls, and Patrick H. Daley of Brick; two sisters, Rena Domanski of Freehold and Rosiland Kennedy of Freehold Township; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Adelphia section of Howell.
Dale E. Walsh Deffert
Mrs. Deffert, 46, of Matawan, died July 12 at home. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong resident of Matawan. Mrs. Deffert was a homemaker, and a bus aide at Milu Bus Service Inc., Aberdeen. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas R. Walsh Sr. She is survived by her husband, Theodore Balog; her mother and stepfather, Violet and Wayne Morris of Brick; a son, Jarrett Feldman of Keyport; a brother, Thomas R. Walsh Jr. of Jamesburg; and her former husband, Matthew Feldman of Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Carlton F. Matthews
Mr. Matthews, 64, of Farmingdale, died July 9 at home. Born in Neptune, he was a lifelong resident of Farmingdale. Prior to retiring 12 years ago, Mr. Matthews was a plumber/steamfitter for United Association Plumbers & Pipefitters Local No. 9, Manalapan. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale, where he was a trustee and an elder. He also co-founded and actively volunteered for Joshua House Ministries, Farmingdale. Surviving are his wife, Judith Matthews; a son and daughter-in-law, Carlton “Ed” and Elena Matthews of Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly M. and Bill McAteer of Brick; his father, Lester Matthews of Lynch, Md.; two brothers, Lester “Bob” Matthews of Farmingdale and Clifford Matthews of Wharton, Md.; a sister, Janice Lee Dey of Betterton, Md.; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Steven Kengeter officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
