OCEAN TOWNSHIP – On July 10, a Raleigh Court resident reported that he had been contacted via e-mail on his home computer by someone claiming to be from JPMorgan Chase Bank and advised that his account had been suspended for suspicious activity. He was told that to reactivate the account, he should log on to a specific Web site and provide all of his personal banking information.
The resident was suspicious and contacted Chase Bank security, which advised him that the incident was a fraud.
The victim didn’t provide his information and did not suffer any financial loss, police said, explaining that a review of the fraudulent e-mail sent to the victim revealed many misspelled words and phrases.
The Ocean Township police are advising anyone else who may have received this e-mail to report it to their local police department and to contact their bank.
The sending location of the e-mail remains under investigation.
