Two Brick marinas that recently earned a designation as a clean marina by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) were recognized for their efforts by the Township Council last week.
Last year, Baywood Marina, Pilot Drive, and Green Cove Marina, Division Street, pledged to identify opportunities and implement practices to control pollution, enhance the surrounding environment and encourage responsible boating practices.
By earning clean marina status, both facilities can utilize the Clean Marina logo in their marketing and advertising materials and fly the Clean Marina flag at their locations.
The township council presented Ed Harrison Jr. of Baywood Marina and Al Davidson of Green Cove Marina with a resolution for their accomplishments.
The New Jersey Clean Marina Program is sponsored by the DEP with a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA).
Two other Brick marinas, Jersey Shore Marina and Boat Sales, Route 70, and the Manasquan River Club, Riverside Drive, are among the 27 marinas statewide that are voluntarily participating in the program.
New Jersey has more than 540 marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs that provide services to thousands of vessels.
