Former board member dismayed by facade

To the editor:
As a former Florence Township School Board member, nine years, 1972-1981, I must humbly question the reasoning of the facade of the new high school.
It appears to be a monument to gaudiness and extremely bad taste, more worthy of the Camden Aquarium or an entrance to a funhouse at Coney Island. Just who is responsible for this? Does the present school board really think this will enhance the education and prestige of Florence Township students? I can only imagine the moniker(s) given to this new school.

Thanks to all for successful ‘Walk’

To the editor:
We wanted to thank Bordentown City for a super successful Spirit Walk. As we walked around town we were thrilled to see so many people and loved the bustling atmosphere on Farnsworth Avenue.
We wanted to thank all of the establishments that agreed to serve their specials at a discounted rate. If it wasn’t for you this wouldn’t have happened.
And a great big thank you to all of the people who purchased tickets and made this fund-raiser triumphant. The 325th Anniversary of Bordentown is one step closer to putting on some really great events next year.
Due to the overwhelming response to our first Spirit Walk, a second Spirit Walk will be held on Oct. 20 with new specials and coupons adding some of our fine retailers in town along with our ever wonderful eateries. Details will be available shortly.
Thank you all again, merchants and patrons, for making the Spirit Walk a resounding success.

Conservation scholarships available to students

To the editor:
With regards to a recent request from Mr. Kenneth Marsh, President of the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts, on Aug. 17, I presented the North Hanover Township Committee with the 2006 announcement and application forms for the Memorial Conservation Scholarship Program.
Since North Hanover Township and our neighboring rural communities have preserved thousands of acres of farmland and open space, it is appropriate to publicize and make this announcement available to residents of the state and to any interested local college students. This scholarship is granted to encourage and support qualified students to pursue a career in a field related to the conservation and management of natural resources.
Recognizing that one or two $1,000 scholarships will be given statewide this year by the NJ Association of Conservation Districts from their Memorial Scholarship Fund, it would be good for a local resident to benefit from this type of scholarship. Applications may be obtained from any Soil Conservation District in New Jersey, NJ Association of Conservation Districts, or the State Soil Conservation Committee, PO Box 330, Trenton, New Jersey 08625.
Since it is possible that we have a deserving college student who is pursuing a career in conversation, obtain an application which must be submitted by Oct. 23, 2006.
