The Master Gardeners of Mercer County will host their fourth annual Insect Festival on Sept. 9 from 1-4 p.m.
The festival will be held, rain or shine, at the Mercer County Home Compost Demonstration Site and Gardens, 431A Federal City Road, Hopewell Township, adjacent to the Mercer County Equestrian Center and is offered to the community free of charge.
Children of all ages can participate in insect-related educational activities, games and stories about how insects develop. Scheduled activities include monarch butterfly tagging; an insect puppet show; an insect safari; games, crafts and sketching; an insect costume parade; and hayrides at the Equestrian Center barn.
Learn about beneficial insects, beekeeping and composting.
Jeff Hoagland, educational director of the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, will be on hand to lead children on an insect safari. Visit the seven demonstration gardens and have all questions about ticks and more answered by Barbara J. Bromley, Mercer County horticulturist.
The Master Gardeners of Mercer County is a volunteer educational outreach program of Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension, 930 Spruce Street, Lawrence, next to the Trenton Farmers Market.
