Local jazz lovers can expect a swinging good time on Sept. 8 when the South Brunswick Jazz Café Fall Series kicks off with a concert by the group Vintage, Arts Commission Chairman Jeff Leebaw said.
The four-person ensemble, which is made up of a clarinetist, a violinist, a cellist and a guitarist, will perform works by famous jazz composers like Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and George Gershwin, he said.
"This is a group that really plays swinging jazz, the kind reminiscent of the Prohibition era," he said. "It’s the kind of jazz that will have people jumping in their seats and waiting to dance and do the Charleston."
The concert will be held at the Herb Eckert Auditorium at the South Brunswick Municipal Complex on Ridge Road. Mr. Leebaw said he expects a big turnout and for the audience to walk away pleased.
"They’ll have a really wonderful experience in terms of a night of music in South Brunswick. And it’s music that will move them to move," he said. "We think bringing these kinds of concerts to the township is something that is a lot fun."
Admission for the concert is $5 and refreshments are included. Those who attend can enjoy just listening but are encouraged to dance, said Arts Commissioner Andrea Brachfeld.
"I think they’re going to walk away dancing," she said. "Jazz originally was a dance music, so if people would like to dance, that’s certainly up to them."
