EDITORIAL: Make use of Monroe shuttle

Many upsides to new service

It’s not often that a municipality can help save the environment, provide a useful service, cut down on traffic and save taxpayers a few bucks.
But that’s exactly what Monroe’s doing with its free shuttle bus service to Princeton and Freehold.
The township has five new 16-passenger, wheelchair-accessible shuttle buses, two of which will be used to take riders to Princeton, one to take riders to Freehold, one that will be dedicated to the Monroe Township Senior Center and one that will be kept in reserve.
Buses will pick up passengers at the Monroe Community Center, Regency Clubhouse, Concordia Shopping Center, Greenbriar at Whittingham, Encore and Rossmoor and make stops at the intersection of Routes 130 and 571, the Princeton Junction rail station, Palmer Square in Princeton, the University Medical Center at Princeton and the Princeton Shopping Center. The township also runs a shuttle service for seniors and residents with disabilities who need transportation to run errands and go to the doctors.
While many riders will be senior citizens who have difficulty getting around, we hope that all residents will take advantage of the service, which will mean less cars on the road, less gas being burned and an easier and a more comfortable ride to get where you’re going.
