MONTGOMERY The Raritan Valley Flying School, located at the Princeton Airport, will be offering fall ground school evening classes.
The ground school classes are designed to cover material necessary for a student pilot to pass the Federal Aviation Administration written examination. The FAA requires that a student pilot pass a knowledge test as well as a practical flight test to achieve a private pilot’s license.
The ground school will begin 5 p.m. Sept. 24 and will continue for 13 weeks. As the class will be a working session, students are encouraged to enroll prior to the start date to receive their materials for preparation.
"We are looking forward to the start of the fall class since so many students complete the ground requirements with such high scores," said Naomi Nierenberg, president of Raritan Valley Flying School. "By attending the class, the burden of study materials becomes minimized. The ground work isn’t nearly as exciting as the actual flying."
The class will be taught by Rick Harrison, the assistant chief pilot at the airport.
The class will cover the many subjects the FAA requires for the test, including aviation weather, navigation and communications, aviation physiology, flight operations and several other subjects.
After the students have successfully completed the class, they can take the FAA computer examination at the testing site at the Princeton Airport, Ms. Nierenberg said.
