Bow Kay Florist will be celebrating and distributing a free autumn bouquet of fresh cut flowers to those who visit the store Sept. 8 and 9. Owner Kay Majoros says that the flowers are being distributed to celebrate the store’s 19th year in business and to say thanks to the store’s many dedicated customers. The floral shop is located in the newly designed shopping center, called “The Shops at Brick” on Van Zile Road between Routes 70 and 88.

Carina Custom Framing has opened its door for business at 150 Drum Point Road, Brick, next to Walgreens. The store specializes in custom frame designs for everyone, including corporate accounts. Customers can choose from a variety of fine art, photo frames and mirrors. Photo restoration and digital imaging services are also available in addition to free delivery and installation and free in-home or office consultation and design.

The Brick Chamber of Commerce will host a meet and greet for home-based business owners at the Pilot House, 799 Route 70 east, Brick, Sept. 12 from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $7 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. Details: (732) 477-4949.

Dr. Anthony Riello recently became one of the first chiropractors in the United States to study the acclaimed Koren Specific Technique. The doctor was personally trained by Ted Koren, the originator of this new technique. The seminar, held in Philadelphia, Pa., was attended by doctors from as far away as Hawaii and Norway.

According to Dr. Riello, this new method of analysis and correction has made a huge impact with some of the most difficult cases. He says that because the technique is so gentle, it can be used on all patients from newborn to the elderly.

Dr. Riello owns and operates American Chiropractic and Wellness Center LLC in Brick.

Advantage Engineering announced an agreement to merge with Schoor DePalma Inc., a 1,050-person engineering and consulting firm with office locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Florida, Arizona and Mexico. Schoor DePalma’s recapitalization partner, Trivest Partners LP, will manage all financing elements of the acquisition agreement. No financial terms were disclosed.

Based in Manalapan, Schoor DePalma specializes in land development, public works, environmental management, transportation, building services, and telecommunications.

Advantage Engineering will continue to operate under its current name and will be a division of Schoor DePalma.

Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Advantage Engineering specializes in geo- technical engineering, environmental engineering, and construction inspection. The combined firm has over 1,100 professionals located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Arizona, New York, Maryland, Florida and Mexico, serving both the private and public sector.

Rainbow Academy, a family of child care centers with locations in Brick, Iselin, Cranford, Woodbridge, Rutherford, Whippany, North Brunswick and Summit, announced it has been nominated for the New Jersey Family Business of the Year award.

The award, sponsored by New Jersey Monthly magazine, PNC Financial Services Group Inc. and the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University, recognizes the significant role that family businesses play in the nation’s economy, as well as their importance and vital contribution to the state and local business community.

Rainbow Academy Child Care Centers was founded by the Falzarano family in 1997. Its first center in Iselin, where the family was living at the time, was 4,700 square feet in size, employed 20 people and served 100 children. Today, the family-owned company has eight centers throughout the state, employs more than 250 child care professionals and can accommodate 1,573 children.

The New Jersey Family of the Year award recognizes family firms that best exemplify strong business acumen, active family engagement, innovation and community involvement. Recipients of the award will be honored at a luncheon to be held at Crystal Plaza in Livingston on Oct. 3.
