New Jersey Repertory Theatre will hold auditions for “High School Musical” Sept. 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and Sept. 17 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Crossroads South Middle School, 195 Major Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.
Individuals auditioning should be between the ages of 8 and 17, and come prepared to sing a portion of a Broadway show tune or a selection from the show. Vintage to kick off jazz café series Sept. 8
The South Brunswick Arts Commission will resume its monthly “Jazz Café” series Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. with a performance by Vintage. The concert will be held at Herb Eckert Auditorium at the South Brunswick Municipal Complex, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.
Vintage is an ensemble consisting of clarinet, violin, cello and guitar. The group performs works by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, George Gershwin and others. Members of Vintage perform regularly at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and on Broadway. Admission is $5, and refreshments are included.
The Commission, in cooperation with the South Brunswick Public Library, will present poetry readings featuring regional poets beginning with Maria Mazziotti Gillan Sept. 10. All readings will take place at 2 p.m. at the library, 110 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction.
Emanuel di Pasquale, Sander Zulauf and Frank Finale will read Oct. 15. Alicia Ostriker and Eliot Katz will give a reading Nov. 19, and The Poets of South Brunswick – Hank Kalet, Shandy Walton, Adam Fitzgerald and others – will read Dec. 17. Readings are free, but a donation of a nonperishable food item to be given to the South Brunswick Food Pantry is encouraged.

Registration under way for S. Brunswick tennis
South Brunswick Community Education has announced it will offer adult tennis lessons for fall with session one Sept. 18-Oct. 9 (no class Oct. 2), and session two Oct. 11-30.
Sessions consist of six lessons, Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m., and cost is $109 per session. Lessons are at South Brunswick High School, 750 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.
Children’s tennis will be offered six Saturdays beginning Sept. 23 for children ages 4-10 at Crossroads South School, 195 Major Road, Monmouth Junction, and ages 4 through grade 12 at the high school. The Pee Wee program for ages 4-8 is also offered in 60-minute classes for small groups at 8:25 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Crossroads, and 2:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. at the high school. Students ages 8-10 will meet from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Crossroads, and 10 and older from 12:15-1:45 p.m. at the high school.

invited to NAMI course
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) New Jersey will sponsor “Family-to-Family Education,” a 12-week education course for family members and caregivers of individuals affected by mental illness in Middlesex County, beginning Sept. 11 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the NAMI New Jersey office, 1562 Route 130, North Brunswick.
The curriculum will focus on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and mood disorders. The course will cover the clinical treatment of the illnesses and impart the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively as caregivers.

Pet event, block party slated in North B’wick
North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services will hold the third annual “Dog Walkathon” Sept. 9 at Sabella Park off Cozzens Lane, North Brunswick. Registration is at 10 a.m., and the walk at 11 a.m.
Dogs must be at least 16 weeks of age, licensed, vaccinated and leashed at all times. Entry fee is $12 for the first dog and $5 for each additional dog. Rally Day slated at
St. Barnabas Sept. 10

S.B. Community School
South Brunswick Adult Community School is now accepting registration for its fall classes. The school has added new courses such as tai chi and dance, which begin in late September. One-night cooking classes also begin in late September.
Other new classes include craft, personal finance, and self-help courses, and returning classes include watercolor painting, crochet, feng shui, and investment basics. Also, trips to QVC Studio in Pennsylvania is set for Oct. 14 and to the “Christmas Spectacular” at Radio City Music Hall, New York City, Nov. 10.
