The borough of Tinton Falls will hold a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. to formally open the new Sycamore Avenue Recreation Complex and dedicate the fields. There are six fields and they will be dedicated to various residents who have served the community. They are Gilbert McDonald, Ronald Cooper, Walt Trillhasse, Virginia Bland, Gabriel Spector and Richard Maher.

Kortney’s Challenge fundraiser will be held Saturday at Blackberry Bay Park on Port-au-Peck Avenue in memory of 9-year-old Kortney Gillette, who died in April as a result of a brain tumor.
The two-mile run/walk will start at 4 p.m. and registration for the event will begin at 3 p.m.
The race is the inaugural event for the Kortney Rose Foundation and all funds raised at the event will be used to purchase playground equipment for Wolf Hill School in Kortney’s memory.
Registration forms can be downloaded at www.oceanportboro.com. Registration is $2 for children 12 years and younger and $7 for children over the age of 12 and all adults. The entry fee includes a T-shirt for the first 250 registrants.

The English Speaking Union of the United States will host a buffet brunch at The Navesink Country Club, Middletown, on Sunday, Sept. 10, at noon. The speaker will be Louise Nicholson, who will present a slide lecture on “Royal London: From Greenwich Palace to Hampton Court Palace.” Nicholson is a columnist for an art magazine, the author of 26 books about the history and culture of London and India and has lectured internationally on a wide range of topics.
