Annual celebration to double as fundraiser
By: Lacey Korevec
MONROE Fun is in store for all ages at the 18th annual Country Fair, which will be held Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Thompson Park. The free event will feature food, crafts, pony rides, a car show, pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, a pageant and raffles.
Sponsored by the Monroe Township Mother’s Club and the Monroe Township Department of Recreation, the fair will serve as a fundraiser for the mother’s club, a nonprofit civic organization that helps community members in need. The fair’s proceeds go back to the community through donations to local organizations and families in need, as well as special children events.
Music will be provided throughout the day by D.J. Wacky Wayne and local band, Sunset Boulevard.
There will be a baby buggy contest, where parents can decorate a child’s carriage or stroller.
Little Miss Monroe and Town Squire contests will also be held for children 5 and under.
Military vehicles, including a Humvee and two helicopters, will be brought to the park by members of the National Guard.
Raffles will include donations from sports teams such as the Trenton Thunder, New Jersey Devils, New York Mets and New York Giants, as well as local merchants. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
