Princeton Public Library to host first book fair for children

The Princeton Public Library will hold its first ever Children’s Book Festival, sponsored by the Friends of the Princeton Public Library and The Princeton Packet, from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 in the plaza outside the library.
"We’re starting what we hope will be an annual event with a bang," said Jan Johnson, manager of the library’s Youth Services Department, in a written release. "With all of these wonderful authors and activities, there will be something for everyone."
The afternoon will begin with a performance by guitarist Kenn Kweder, a musician for all ages.
Over 24 authors and illustrators, many from the region, will make appearances and conduct readings throughout the afternoon. These include Margery Cuyler, author of "Skeleton Hiccups," Brian Lies, who wrote "Bats at the Beach," and Herman Parish, who has continued his aunt Peggy’s much-loved "Amelia Bedelia" series.
At 1 and 4 p.m. in the Community Room, puppeteer Preston Foerder will perform "Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimy," which he previously staged at the library’s grand opening in 2004. A performance will be offered at 1 p.m. by Body Hype, a Princeton University student dance troupe.
"The Amazing Otto," a balloon artist, will be on hand from 1 to 3 p.m.
Throughout the afternoon, the library’s Teen Advisory Board will offer face painting and temporary tattoos and Dana Sheridan, education and outreach coordinator of Princeton University’s Cotsen Children’s Library, will lead crafts projects. Books by all of the authors and illustrators will be available for purchase.
