Saturday garbage pickup removed from schedule

JAMESBURG The borough’s twice-a-week summertime garbage pickup is over, but residents will have an opportunity to dispose of bulk items later this month.
The borough implements a twice-a-week trash collection on Wednesdays and Saturdays during July and August because heat can intensify the odor of piled up garbage, said Administrative Assistant Kristen Silowka.
She said trash tends to pile up faster in the summer because many residents have barbecues and parties.
Saturday garbage collection ended last weekend. The borough will collect garbage only on Wednesdays until next summer. Recycling will continue to be collected every other Thursday.
The annual Fall Cleanup is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20, during regular trash pick up hours.
Residents may put out as many bulk items as needed. Typically, Ms. Silowka said, residents are only allowed to throw out one bulk item per trash pickup.
Paint, household hazardous waste, construction material, like wood with nails, concrete and car parts are prohibited.
Residents who wish to dispose of white goods, such as refrigerators, should call the call Borough Hall at (732) 521-2222.
