A former employee in Princeton University’s Office of Information Technology, Howard Strauss, has posthumously received an Educause Leadership Award for Distinguished Performance and Outstanding Service.
A nonprofit association with the motto, "Transforming Education Through Information Technologies," Educause has a membership of over 15,000 individuals from over 2,000 colleges, universities and educational organizations. The leadership award is given to an individual who has advanced higher education through the use of information technology.
The award carries with it a $3,000 contribution from Educause that will be given to a scholarship chosen by Mr. Strauss’s family.
During his 34 years at Princeton until his death in September 2005, Mr. Strauss held a number of positions. As manager of the advanced applications group, he was involved in the creation of the Princeton News Network, a forerunner of the World Wide Web, according to a university press release.
Outside of the university, Mr. Strauss spent five years as the technical anchor for the Corporation for Research and Educational Networking Tech Talk series of webcasts. He was a founding member of the Election Watch advocacy group, a faculty member for the National Association of College and University Business Officers and a member of Pearson’s Online Learning advisory board.
