More than 50 organizations have reserved exhibit tables for the 11th annual Archives and History Day celebration at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.
Archives and History Day, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Oct. 14, according to a press release from Gary Saretzky, an archivist for Monmouth County.
The library is at 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan.
The event will mark Archives Week by encouraging awareness of the area’s documented heritage and New Jersey’s history, according to the press release.
It will also serve as an opportunity for institutions to publicize their collections and programs, promoting the value of the archives and archivists to society, according to the press release.
In addition, the day will show support for professional archival practices and standards, and afford an opportunity for networking among representatives of history-related organizations in the state, according to the press release.
About 300 to 400 attendees are expected. Among them will be historian Charles McSorley, who will give two lectures on Mathew Brady, a Civil War-era photographer, according to the press release.
A special monthlong exhibition on the Civil War, which will focus on Monmouth County, will also be on view throughout the day. Other events include videos, a seminar on an archival consulting service conducted by coordinator Elsalyn Palmisano and a tour of the Monmouth County Archives.
Among the honors will be the Jane G. Clayton Award presented to Gerald Ceres, and a winner will soon be selected to receive the Roger McDonough Librarianship Award. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) New Jersey Caucus service award will also be presented to the Plainfield Public Library, according to the press release.
